ABSTRACT & CITATION

Based on responses to a survey of IDRA members in 2015, this paper discusses: the current indigent defense data collection and analytic capacity; the necessity of improving data collection and analytic capacity; success stories of improved data collection and analytic capacity; and the future of improvement of data collection and analytic capacity. The authors offer three main reasons for improving these areas: (1) data can show what happens to clients; (2) data can illuminate defenders’ work to themselves; and (3) data can help defenders make the case that they need more resources.
